New Sports Bar Catering To Women Is Offensive To My Delicate Lady Sensibilities

I am a woman. A woman who happens to enjoy sports. And while it’s not often that I’ll go to a sports bar to take in a Lions or Tigers or Red Wings game, it’s been known to happen. Generally, the only thing at a sports bar that will irritate me while watching a game is the overly enthusiastic bros at the giant table who yell and high-five each other every time something even remotely positive happens. “The Lions didn’t score a touchdown, but no one fumbled the ball! High five, bro!” *everyone slaps hands while I roll my eyes so hard it gives me a migraine*

That being said, I find no reason for there to be a sports bar that caters specifically to women, especially when it’s done the way this new bar in New York City is. What way is that exactly? The wrong way.

According to DNAinfo, owners of this lady-centric new sports bar Campeon, they think their pink walls and more feminine atmosphere will bring the ladies in in droves.

It’s highly stylized and geared towards women in that it’s not a typical Hooters-style bar that [is] overly masculine with the Guinness mirrors. We did a softer design. We wanted to make it very inviting for women so that they don’t feel like they’re sitting in a men’s kind of club.

Upon walking in, guests are met with a row of plush leather couches, chandeliers and mirrors shaped like suns. The bright pink walls are decorated with blue- and pink-patterned tiles, contrasting with dozens of TVs that on a recent afternoon were showing men’s basketball games and the Olympics.

Yes, of course. Women don’t like beer mirrors. That must be why most sports bars are generally filled with guys instead of ladies. *eye roll*

Here’s the thing – if you are a sports bar and you want to cater to women there are some things that you don’t need: pink walls, chandeliers, stupid sounding sport-themed cocktails, shirtless male bartenders (who are sensitive to a woman’s needs), or any sort of ridiculous, frilly decorations.

You know what you need? Bathrooms. Clean ones, at that. With fully stocked toilet paper dispensers, doors that actually lock, and maybe a mirror that isn’t so dirty that we can’t check to see if our eyeliner is smudged after a few hours of cheering for our favorite team and drinking.

That’s it. Clean bathrooms. I just designed the best female-friendly sports bar ever and it only took one step.
