Multiple Crashes Shut Down Westbound I-96 In Ionia County

Westbound I-96 is shut down in Ionia County due to multiple crashes. The stretch of highway is closed at the Saranac exit because of two multi-truck crashes.

One person was reportedly hurt in the first crash near the Clarksville exit.  And at least one person was injured in the second crash near the Saranac exit.  Police called for the jaws of life and AeroMed was put on standby. 

Drivers are being asked to avoid the area.

MDOT has said, “Westbound I-96 traffic shall take Exit #59 and turn right onto Nash Hwy.  Turn left onto Grand River Ave. Grand River Ave changes name to Cascade Rd at the Kent county line. Turn left onto Alden Nash Ave. Turn right onto the westbound I-96 entrance ramp.”
