Michigan State University's less than stellar season continued on Saturday when they fell to in-state rival the University of Michigan 32-23. They suffered a loss to their lineup Saturday afternoon, as well, with quarterback Brian Lewerke leaving the game in the fourth quarter.

Initially, we didn't know what had happened to Lewerke, but Coach Dantonio released a statement Monday explaining what had happened and that Lewerke won't be returning this season.

Lewerke broke his tibia in a play in which he was tackled by Jabrill Peppers. The injury will require surgery, but Dantonio expects him to return to the team in the spring.

After beginning the season with quarterback Tyler O'Connor, the Spartans have switched back and forth between senior O'Connor, Lewerke (a red shirt freshman), and junior Damion Terry.
