Over the weekend, more than 20 Shetland Sheepdogs were taken in by the Well Mannered Dog Center in Grand Rapids.

Fox 17 reports that the animals were rescued from poor conditions in Northern Michigan. Many had matted fur, fleas, and other signs of neglect.

Employees at the center are working to clean up the dogs and get them checked out by a vet.

Well Mannered Dog Center posted to Facebook on Sunday,

The rescue Shelties are bedded down now and quiet. 7 have been groomed and volunteers will continue working to get them clean and comfortable. While they were vetted up north a local vet will be in tomorrow to immunize and check them over. We were so very lucky with this group. While dehydrated they aren't malnourished. They do have some weight. Teeth, toenails, and ears need vet care but they will be fine. If anyone would like to give comfort, help feed, or exercise please feel free to stop in."

Once they are ready, the dogs will be put into foster homes and then adopted. More information about adopting the dogs has not been released yet.
