Planning on lighting off some fireworks this weekend? Be ready to change those plans. The state of Michigan is considering a ban on fireworks in certain areas of the lower peninsula.

The lack of rain has made the State Fire Marshal consider a ban of fireworks in certain areas. The village of Holly has already placed a ban on consumer fireworks due to the dry conditions.

Fire Marshals from across the state, including Detroit and Northern Oakland, are talking about the dangers of fireworks in these conditions. Detroit fire marshal Chris Dixon gave this advice: "They’re very dangerous, so you should be careful where you store them. Have adult supervision when using them. Keep small children and animals away from them. And no alcohol"

As of right now their are no reports that Grand Rapids or the surrounding area will be banning fireworks for the 4th of July weekend.  But if you do plan on lighting off fireworks be aware that we do have dry conditions.  Be careful and have a hose or bucket of water ready just in case.
