Michigan Teens On Spring Break Save Couple From Burning Car

ABC

Generally, when you think of teenagers away in Florida on Spring Break, you don’t think of them doing any heroic deeds. But, two Michigan teens did just that. Cody Decker and Luke Vaughn from Dewitt saved two lives, in fact.

Decker and Vaughn, both 17, were on vacation in Palm Coast when they witnessed a car speed by and then crash into a tree. They called 911 as soon as it happened, but also realized they were going to have to do something when the car burst into flames.

Two people were trapped inside the car, with their legs pinned under the dashboard. So, the pair pulled the trapped passengers out before the car was totally engulfed in flames, risking their own lives.

Tracy Lopez, 42, and Carlos Adams, 44, were both treated for critical injuries, but survived.

County Sheriff Don Fleming presented Decker and Vaughn with a life-saving award for their bravery.

“If it wasn’t for them, we’d be attending two funerals right now,” said Tracy’s daughter, Jessica Lopez, who attended the ceremony.

Decker and Vaughn don’t really think of themselves as heroes, though.

“We’re two ordinary guys just helping people out,” Decker explained.

Ordinary guys, maybe. But, I think they’re probably the only ones that think that.  Learn more about the brave pair in this report from ABC News.
