A Michigan mother was hospitalized Friday with a closed head injury involving possible bleeding on the brain following an attack by her daughter’s boyfriend, according to police.

Randy Regan Jr., 23, is being held in the Branch County Jail on charges of aggravated assault less than murder and domestic violence stemming from the incident in Coldwater Friday morning.

Early Friday morning, officers were called to a home where Regan lived with his girlfriend and her mother.

Regan's girlfriend told police that he had returned home from the bar and threatened her while she was in bed, then punched her. She also told police she called for help, and her mother came to help her. It was then that Regan allegedly threw his girlfriend to the ground and then threatened to kill both her and her mother.

A physical altercation involving the mother followed. It's being reported that the mother ended up on the ground and that Regan allegedly kicked her in the head.

The mother was transferred to Bronson Hospital for treatment. The girlfriend was treated at the Community Health Center for injuries to her head, eye, and face.

The attack on the women came to an end when the mother's 17-year-old son came home with some of his friends. Seeing what had transpired, he grabbed a baseball bat, and Regan ran off, according to police.

Regan was taken into custody about an hour later when police found him at a nearby apartment complex. He then told police he had been assaulted and that he did not wish to press charges.

Regan suffered injuries to his face, but only after he was arrested. Officers say he slammed his head into the plexiglass window in the rear seat of the police car. He was treated at the Branch County Community Health Center emergency room prior to his jail booking.

Regan then refused to shower or clean the blood from his face until just before his video arraignment on Friday afternoon.

A Branch County judge set Regan’s bond at $100,000. Regan then asked the judge about the possibility of pleading insanity, allegedly claiming he was bipolar.

The  judge entered a not guilty plea on Regan’s behalf.

Police say Regan has a history of domestic violence incidents.
