As you head out over the river and through the woods to Grandmother's house for the Thanksgiving holiday, remember that you're among an elite group, the best drivers in the country.

Michigan finished low on a study of the country's worst drivers by state, and therefore, are mong the nation's best drivers. But I already knew that. Now if we could just stop the nsty habit of tailgating.

Just so you know, Louisiana had the worst drivers.

CarInsuranceComparison.com looked at data for each state from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and analyzed car crashes in five categories, including fatalities, drunk driving and speeding.

While Louisiana and Texas tied for the absolute worst, South Carolina, North Dakota and Delaware rounded out the top five. The study ranks Minnesota and Vermont drivers as the best in the country.

The rest of the worst are:

  • New Mexico
  • Nevada
  • Alabama & Arizona (tied)
  • Montana

The rest of the best are:

  • Kansas
  • West Virginia
  • Ohio
  • New Hampshire
  • Maine
  • Idaho
  • Michigan
  • Iowa
