Michigan City Voted The Best – And Cheapest – City For Single People

Recently, Kiplinger, a financial website of all things, compiled a list of the best cities for singles in the U.S. Not surprisingly to those of us who call the Mitten State home, a Michigan city tops the list!

Ann Arbor, home to the University of Michigan, was rated number one by Kiplinger. Now, the rankings weren't simply based on the cities with the largest amount of singles, they also factored in cost of living, income, and how much money a date will cost you.

Ann Arbor came out on top, with 55 percent of the households being single people. The cost of living in AA is also lower than the national average, the average household income is $59,065, and they say that your average date night tab will only run you $24.

Kiplinger also noted that the majority of the residents in Ann Arbor are well educated (which one would expect with it being a college town). It was determined that the age of the population skews to the younger side with a quarter of the people in the city being between the ages of 20 and 34 years old.

While it’s true that undergrads and dive bars can be found around every corner –- a blessing or a curse, depending on your dating objectives -- Ann Arbor offers amenities for post-grad bachelors and bachelorettes, as well. Sophisticated daters might opt for a stroll around the historic Kerrytown district, or perhaps take in a show at the city’s annual film festival or art fair. Better-than-average paychecks from plentiful jobs in tech, medicine and education help foot the bill for nights out on the town.
