After spending a week of vacation along the Lake Michigan shoreline ... I can't tell you how many conversations I had with other campers about either the daily temperature or how clean it appeared each day.

In Muskegon, there was a sort of reservoir off to the north side of the beach that was directly fed from the big lake.  Since it was stormy all week, the reservoir seemed a bit 'dirty' from debris that included drift wood and seaweed.  However, Lake Michigan itself was crystal clear, albeit coolish!

According to WZZM 13, before you head to the beach you can check out the quality of water through an online service that reports on a daily basis.   The database keeps track of water conditions of over 1,200 Michigan beaches!
