Meet Harlee – Christine’s NEW Pet!

Ever since I moved to Grand Rapids, my goal was to get settled in and eventually adopt a cat to liven up my home, because living alone in a new city can get pretty lonely at times. Yesterday, I decided to take a trip to the Humane Society of West Michigan and see what kitties they had.

To my surprise, there weren't that many available because the previous week they were PACKED with kittens and cats. So I didn't expect to be taking one home. But I was wrong! Because I am officially a mother!! I adopted a sweet 1-year-old short-haired cat who has the most awesome patches of color. Isn't she cute?!

She won me over when she started rolling around in her cage and sticking her hands out to touch me. She gave me plenty of kisses and head bumps which added to the reasons of me adopting her. But what really made me know she was the one is that she didn't mind butt-smacks! Some cats HATE when you pat their butts and they'll claw or bite you but not this one! She loved the butt-smacks so I had to make it official before anyone else got to her.

When I brought her home she was exploring every room and every nook and cranny. She even got stuck behind my washing machine and I had to pull her out. So far I've noticed that she is a big sweetheart, she's extremely vocal, she's affectionate and enjoys lounging around. It was meant to be ♥

Of course I had to name her, I couldn't keep calling her "baby" or "kittie" so after I posted her picture on my FB page, people started throwing out ideas of names. One of them was Neopolitan. I wasn't too keen on that but after I started thinking about it I realized that Neopolitan ice cream is also known as Harlequin ice cream. Then I thought about Harlequins and how their known to have black, white, and red colors. Which led me to think about Harley Quinn, the character from Batman, so with her interesting pattern I thought Harlequin was a cute name so I looked at her and said, "how would you like it if your name was Harlee?" and she came up to me gave me a head-butt and licked my nose. That right there confirmed it. So she is officially Harlequin but Harlee for short!

I love my little girl so far! :)
