We’re always talking about getting involved with the community around us, but sometimes it’s hard to know what to do or how to get started.  Well if you are or have kids between 9th and 12th grade, maybe they’d like to join the Mayor’s Youth Council.

They’re currently looking for teens who would be interested in lending their voice to policy issues that will or do affect them.

You have to be a resident of Grand Rapids in the 9th -12th grade, meaning you have to live within one of the city’s 3 wards and be enrolled in school.  They, of course, encourage GRPS students to apply.

If you get on the Mayor’s Youth Council you’ll help steer the mayor’s office, City Commission, and other city departments when it comes to issues affecting youth in the city.

According to the website for signing up for the council:

Council Members broaden the scope of youth leadership in city government by discussing policy issues that affect them with the Mayor, City Commission, and staff, gathering input from area youth, promoting awareness of the strengths and abilities of youth, and coordinating with other local and national organizations.
