This is hard to believe.  Just when the Detroit Lions start making some progress and stop making regular appearances during late night TV show monologues, Matt Millen's ghost returns to haunt fans.

Detroit Lion rookie running back Mikel Leshoure suffered a season-ending injury on Monday when he tore his Achilles tendon.  The Lions quickly signed a couple of running backs to take his place, including Kalamazoo Central High School graduate Jerome Harrison.  Their search for running backs isn't over though as shown by the invitation to try out given to Matt Millen's son-in-law Collin Mooney.

Mooney set the all-time single season rushing record at Army his senior season, but he has not played football in two years.  He has been fulfilling his commitment to serve in the Army.

It's difficult for Lions fans to stomach anything that involves Matt Millen in any way, but who can root against Mooney?  I'm going to try to root for him.  It may be difficult at first.  He is likely a long shot to make the team, but anything can happen.

The Detroit Lions play their first preseason game tonight.
