Mackinac Bridge Will Turn Blue For Autism Awareness Tuesday Night

Tuesday is Global Autism Awareness Day, and a popular Michigan landmark will be turning blue tonight to bring more awareness to the cause.

Named “Light it Blue Michigan,” this will be the second time that the state will be participating in this international event. Michigan has the fourth-largest number of autistic children in the U.S. (15,000 kids) and advocates hope that this will help bring light to those children.

Michigan Lt. Governor Brian Calley, who has a daughter with autism, will be one of five featured speakers at the event at the Kewadin Casino in St. Ignace Tuesday night. Before becoming the youngest Lieutenant Governor in the country, Calley was an Ionia County Commissioner.

In addition to the Mackinac Bridge, other locations participating in "Light It Blue Michigan" include the GM Renaissance Center, DTE Energy offices, the Motor City Casino, Madonna University, and Wayne State University.

The lights on the Mighty Mac will remain blue through the month of April.
