Today (June 1) would have been beauty icon Marilyn Monroe’s 86th birthday. In a subtle, touching and beautiful tribute, Lady Gaga tweeted a gorgeous photo of herself, paying homage to Monroe’s signature blonde waves, thick, sculpted brows and dark, rich, red lips.

Monroe died at age 36, which is 50 years ago, yet her legacy and her look endures. She remains a pop culture force decades later. While there will never be another one like her, that hasn’t stopped pop divas, like Madonna and Mother Monster, from paying tribute to her look and beyond, thus keeping her alive.

Her tweet read: “#HappyBirthdayMarilyn‬ They’ll never take our blonde hair and lipstick.”

Gaga is currently traipsing through Asia on the Born This Way Ball tour, but she still took time out of her busy day to share her visual Marilyn tribute to her 25 million Twitter followers. While this image might cause Madonna to roll her eyes and sing ‘She’s Not Me‘ again — since Madge is also known for her punk rock redo of Marilyn’s signature style — Gaga’s photo and her post are elegant and eloquent.

Gaga has rocked a Monroe-inspired look before, but we like the intimacy of the Twitter shot.

She rolled her hair, put her lipstick on! Long live Marilyn Monroe!
