Kalamazoo River Oil Spill Clean-Up Continues

Last July an oil spill on the Kalamazoo River near Marshall caused over 800,000 gallons of oil to be leaked into the river.  Over a year later, clean-up efforts continue.

Thousands of gallons still need to be cleaned up from the Enbridge oil spill.  Most of the remaining oil is either on the river bank or on the bottom of the river.  WZZM tells us more about the clean-up efforts:

Enbridge Inc. has been given until Oct. 20 to submit revised plans for additional cleanup work. More than 800,000 gallons of oil leaked into the river and Talmadge Creek. About 766,000 gallons of oil has been collected.

Enbridge has said it was increasing its estimate of the cleanup cost by about 20 percent to $700 million.

The pipeline runs from Griffith, Ind., to Sarnia, Ontario.
