Jay-Z and his former Roc-A-Fella Records executives are being sued by a New York designer who claims that he is owed royalties for creating the label’s iconic logo, reports New York Daily News.

Dwayne Walker, a clothing designer, filed a copyright infringement lawsuit in Manhattan Federal court on Thursday (July 12), seeking $7 million in unpaid royalties for creating the logo.

Walker alleges in his suit that he designed the label’s emblem in 1995 when Roc-A-Fella was just starting out. The black-and-white logo of an “R” back with a record and champagne bottle is synonymous with Jay-Z and his branding, as well as other artists on Roc-A-Fella Records.

“The logo has become universally recognized as an iconic symbol of Jay-Z, one of the most successful recording artists in the history of popular music,” the suit says.

Jay-Z nor his attorneys had no comment on the matter.

Meanwhile, Jay-Z has scheduled eight concerts in the fall at the newly-developed Barclays Center in his hometown of Brooklyn, N.Y. Theses special performances are Hov’s way of introducing fans to the Brooklyn Nets (formerly the New Jersey Nets) and their new home at the Barclays.

Jay-Z will perform from September 28-30 and October 1-6 (sans Oct. 2). Tickets for the eight concerts are economically priced at $30 and are available today (July 13) at

It’s unclear what Jay-Z has planned for any of the eight dates, but we have a feeling that Mrs. Carter and a fellow Throne rapper might stop by.
