I really don’t want to go on the air today, it’s not because I’m feeling lazy.

I don’t want this to come off as “poor Josh,” because it’s really not about that.

If you ask any radio person, who is supposed to be fun on the air, about 9/11 they’ll most likely tell you the same thing, “today is awkward.” It’s not because we think we’re supposed to be sad, but today takes on a different tone, for a lot of Americans it’s a tone that hasn’t faded since the events of 9/11 scared the living crap out of us. These are just the thoughts of a guy who was an Ohio teen when all this happened, I can’t imagine what it would be like to be tied any closer to the events.

So why don’t I want to go on the air? Don’t get me wrong, I love my job and I haven’t always felt this way on 9/11. It’s something that’s crept up on me as I get older.

I don’t want to go on because I can’t think of anything that’s more important than reflecting on what this day is about. I don’t care to talk about last night’s episode of “Under the Dome,” or what Colbert did, or what viral video you need to watch. Pop culture can wait a day.

Yes, 14 years later I believe we can all be a bit less superficial for ONE day. Reflecting on those who died, the fear all of us felt at the same time, how we all stood together for a little bit and were actually united as one for a brief time. In those weeks we thanked our first responders, we saw how amazing humans could be after witnessing how horrible we can be.

I’m not saying today is a day to walk around somber, or sad. What I’m saying is it’s a day to think about some important things, and I have a hard time speaking to the masses and distracting them with other topics.

We will do our typical Friday thing, just as you have done at your job. Some people need the distraction after having a rough day. Like always, I will provide that. I just ask everyone to reflect, have a conversation with family, and offer thanks for what you’ve been blessed with.
