Hyundai is recalling 27,700 midsize and compact cars in the U.S. due to potential salt damage, which could cause the front coil springs to fracture.

U.S. News reports that recall cover's Hyundai's most popular cars, the Elantras and Sonatas. Affected Elantras include ones made from November 2010 to March 2011 and Sonatas made from December 2009 to February 2010. Michigan is a state included in the recall because it is considered a "salt belt"

If salt does in fact fracture the coil springs it could cause a tire puncture which increases the risk of a crash.

Hyundai will notify you if you own one of these affected vehicles. Dealers will replace the front coil springs for free. The recall is expected to begin November 30th.

No injuries or accidents have been reported at this time.
