Monday we posted a story about a young West Michigan 9 year old little girl who is fighting a battle with leukemia. This is Lola DeYoung's 3rd battle with this horrible disease after first being diagnosed in 2011.

Thanks to high risk treatments including spinal taps and brain radiation she was able to beat it twice but unfortunately the cancer returned and now a bone marrow transplant may be her only option.

But she has an unusual genetic marker that makes it difficult to find a donor and currently, there are no matches in the registry. Due to this factor it has lead Lola to find what she calls her "Unicorn Match."

With her immediate family not being a match her parents reached out to the community by having a bone marrow registry drive. A video was posted to Facebook advertising the drive at Harbor Life Church in Grandville, and to Lola and her families surprise this community responded in a HUGE way with nearly a thousand people lining up out the door to participate on Monday.

It only took a few minutes for people to register and no needles were involved just a simple swab of the cheek. The bone marrow drive may find a donor not only for Lola, but also for other leukemia patients as well!
