It never fails, this time of the year I become a bit of a psycho when it comes to avoiding germs. I mean who wants to get sick? Especially when we're going into family overdrive around the holidays. So, how do doctors avoid it?

    Wash Your Hands

This seems like one of those "no duh" kind of tips, but you'd be surprised how many people don't even wash after using the restroom. So if someone isn't washing after the restroom, what would make them wash their hands after they touch anything else?

Doctors wash their hands, ALL THE TIME, so should you. Some are washing their hands 40 to 50 times per day, and using hand sanitizer.

Wash your hands correctly. Use soap and water. Scrub for 20 seconds. Use a paper towel to dry, and use that same paper towel to turn off the faucet and open the door.

Keep Your Hands Away From Your Eyes And Mouth

No matter how clean your hands are, don't touch your face.

Doctors also say they avoid eating food with their hands. This might seem overboard, but doctors say they would eat a sandwich by putting a paper towel around it.

    Keep Surfaces Clean

Computer keyboards, doorknobs, pens, phones; keep them clean. It also wouldn't hurt to disinfect your cell phone every so often.

    Exercise

Doctors say that exercising strengthens your immune system.

Research agrees that exercise will help you avoid a cold. One study found that women who exercised over the course of a year had one-third the colds of women who didn't work out!

If you're already sick, it's advised that you continue to work out. Though, if you have a fever, a cough or chills you should rest a few days.

    Take Vitamin C

Doctors say that Vitamin C can help reduce the length of a cold. They say an extra 500 milligrams is about all you'll need.
