With a population of just 121, you would think Michigan's smallest village would be a nice place to live.

It isn't.

Turner, a small village along the Saginaw Bay in Arenac County, has a wee bit of a crime problem. If you live in Turner, there's a 1-in-23 chance you'll be crime victim. The good news? There's a 1-in-121 chance you'll know you stole your stuff.

Turner is Michigan's smallest village. It was also rated the worst small town in Michigan by Roadsnacks.com for its high crime rate and sad appearance.

So here is the complete list of the smallest villages in Michigan:

10. Twining -- Also in Arenac County, Twining is the seventh worst small town in Michigan. It is known for Gene's Hardware. It has 181 people, according to the 2010 census.

9. Melvin -- Is located on the East Side of Michigan's thumb. It has 180 people, and no store.

8. Pierson -- The closest small town to Grand Rapids, this Montcalm County town has it's own exit off of 131 and contains a section of the White Pine Trail State Park. It has a population of 172.

7. Ahmeek -- Located in Michigan's beautiful Keweenaw Peninsula, Ahmeek offers no views of Lake Superior, no major river and only 146 year round residents. It does have a pine tree (right).

6. Alpha -- Possibly the most remote of the top ten smallest villages, Alpha's 145 year round residents exist on Iron County Road 424 along Alpha Creek. They have a pond and the biggest building of any Michigan small town, called the Mastadon School (below).

5. Free Soil -- This town of 144 residents just east of Ludington in Mason County was named after the Free Soil political party which stood for anti-slavery just before the Civil War, so that's kind of cool. It has two churches and a really old, beautiful school building.

4. Harietta -- Harietta is a beautiful little village snuggled along Slagle Creek in rural Lake County. It has 143 residents, and the 'Train Station House' (below).

3. Forestville -- It's not in a forest at all, but it's on the northeastern edge of Michigan's thumb, and contains some beautiful homes overlooking Lake Huron. It has 138 residents, of which I know two, Jerry and Cathy.

2. Eagle -- Eagle, located just off I-96, between Portland and Lasning, probably is the one small village on this list that's closest to a big city. Eagle has much more commercial buildings than any other village on this list, with an auto repair shop, and a stretch of Grand River Rd. running through it.

1. The aforementioned Turner, which seems hard to recommend for a road trip, but you never know. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and houses only cost $47,000.
