Fans of HBO’s much-loved San Francisco dramedy Looking have been waiting since the cancellation for an update on the official wrap-up movie, and the day has finally come. In addition to a July premiere date for the Jonathan Groff-starrer’s goodbye, the first synopsis drops a few new details of the story.

Officially dubbed Looking: The Movie, the network’s long-awaited 90-minute wrap-up will officially premiere on Saturday, July 23. Written by executive producers Andrew Haigh and Michael Lannan, with Haigh serving as director, so reads the official synopsis:

Starring Jonathan Groff, Frankie J. Alvarez and Murray Bartlett, LOOKING: THE MOVIE wraps up the story of three close friends living in San Francisco who explore the options available to a new generation of gay men seeking fulfillment in love and life.

In the film, Patrick (Groff) returns to the city for the first time in almost a year to celebrate a momentous event with his old friends. In the process, he must face the unresolved relationships he left behind and make difficult choices about what’s important to him.

The series was formally canceled last year after two seasons, though HBO often grants the opportunity for a wrap-up movie to follow. You know, unless you’re Togetherness.

In any case, stay tuned for further Looking: The Movie details on the road to July 23.
