A Grand Rapids food pantry in desperate need of supplies.

Mel Trotter Ministries sent said on Tuesday that they are running "dangerously low" on non-perishable items of all types, "for feeding the hungry, homeless and hurting of the greater Grand Rapids area."

Right now, the pantry is open on Thursdays from 10:00am until 2:00pm and those needing assistance can pick up food twice a month. Without more supplies, they say that they may have to limit those visits to once a month.

Mel Trotter Ministries says that the Brown Bag Food Drive that they run every fall usually keeps their shelves stocked well into the summer, but this winter, more people have requested than normal.

Anyone who wishes to contribute should drop off non-perishable items to the Mel Trotter Ministries' downtown location at 225 Commerce SW or at any of their four thrift store locations. They are especially in need of fruit, vegetables, grains, cereals, and proteins. Call 454-8249 for more information.
