If you're having a hard time getting around bicycles as you drive through Grand Rapids, beware that skaters and skateboarders might soon be sharing the road, too.

WOOD-TV 8 reports that Grand Rapids city commissioners will be reviewing a proposal next week that lifts the ban on skateboards on downtown streets.

The proposal comes from a group of citizens who asked for a change because they want "equal standing to other modes of transportation, such as bicycles."

The group doesn't just promote skateboarding, but they also stand behind transportation such as long boarding, roller skating and inline skating.

The commission is being asked to set a public meeting on April 14, with a final vote on April 28.
