You Won’t Believe How Golden Corral Stores Their Food
A cook at Golden Corral has some trouble on the menu.
Brandon Huber, a cook at one of the franchise’s restaurants in Port Orange, FL has made a video in which he exposes the questionable storing tactics of the eatery. With phone camera in hand shortly before a health inspector arrives, Huber shows uncooked food — including hamburger, ribs, gravy, pot roast and green bean casserole — as it sits near a dumpster.
Huber flatly and angrily says, “To me, this is disgusting. This is what my company likes to do to get ready for inspection. They like to put their food by the dumpster.”
Huber reportedly tried to contact Golden Corral about the unsanitary storage methods and unsuccessfully lobbied the media to pick up his story, so he decided to take matters into his own hands. His father is also accused of trying to sell the video to the restaurant’s owner for $5,000.
Golden Corral responded swiftly by saying none of the food was served to customers and Huber attempted to profit from the episode by selling the video. The restaurant’s manager has also been fired. It’s unclear if Huber kept his job.
The video itself has caused a sensation, with several people comparing Huber to NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden.
What do you think — is Huber a hero for exposing the restaurant or an opportunist merely trying to cash in?
UPDATE: According to ABC News, The Florida Department of Business and Regulation said a complaint has been filed with the Division of Hotels and Restaurants, who will be conducting an investigation into Golden Corral’s food storage practices.
