Former Detroit Lion Roy Willams mailed a $76,000 engagement ring along with a recorded message asking his girlfriend, former Miss Texas Brooke Daniels, to marry him. She said no and after much dispute is giving the ring back to avoid court.

With all of the high profile engagements we've seen lately (remember the movie proposal engagement?) mailing a ring with a recorded message has got to rank at the bottom as far as effort goes.  Williams may be a professional wide receiver, but he dropped the ball this time.  Unless you are separated by hundreds of miles with no means to see each other, why no wait?

Here’s more details about the proposal and ring from oaoa.com:

(Williams) claims he sent $5,000 for school and dental bills, a baseball for Daniels’ brother and — as a surprise — a recorded marriage proposal with the ring through the mail just before Valentine’s Day to Daniels. However, when Daniels declined the proposal, she did not return the ring.

Williams said in the affidavit that he asked for the ring to be returned until Daniels claimed six weeks later that she had lost it, at which point he reported it lost to his insurance agency. The insurance investigation revealed that Daniels’ father, Michael Daniels, had the ring.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, former Miss Texas Brooke Daniels lies about losing the ring when her dad had it the whole time.  I thought Williams proposal needed some work, but she may have topped him with that.

Who's lamer:  Roy Williams or Brooke Daniels?
