What do you think your dog would say if he or she could talk?  A team of researchers at Georgia Tech University are developing a technology that will enable dogs to express themselves verbally or via text message.

The team of researchers, led by Melody Jackson, are designing a vest that is loaded with sensors that a dog can use to communicate different things.  The technology is being developed to aid dogs with occupations.  The vest could be worn by service, search and rescue, bomb detection and therapy dogs so their handlers could communicate more effectively with these already highly trained canines.

In an interview with CNN, Jackson conveys the point that "A bomb-sniffing dog has pretty much one alert that says, 'Hey, I found an explosive. But that dog knows what explosive is in there. ... They know if it's something stable like C4 or something unstable and dangerous like TATP that needs to be handled carefully."  The vest will enable the dog to correctly communicate what it has found with it's handler.

The vest will also have a GPS tracker installed for search and rescue dogs.  This can enable them to safely squeeze into areas that humans cannot easily reach and allow them to comfort a victim

The program is named FIDO (Facilitating Interactions for Dogs with Occupations) and you can find out more about it on Georgia Tech University's Website.
