Georgia Tech’s Brian Gregory Gave MSU’s Tom Izzo ‘Everything’ On Game Plan for Georgia

Brian Gregory, who used to be an assistant coach under Tom Izzo at Michigan State, just completed his fourth season at the helm of Georgia Tech. During those four years, he's 4-0 versus the Yellow Jackets' in-state rival, Georgia.

And it just so happens that Gregory's old boss, Izzo, is opening up this year's NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament against the foe Gregory is so familiar with (and successful against).

Do you think Gregory would help Izzo out in planning for Georgia for the game, which is at 12:40 p.m. Friday in Charlotte?

The answer is a resounding yes.

“You can quote me on this: I gave him everything,” Gregory told the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Gregory said Izzo called him Sunday night just moments after MSU's opening-round game versus Georgia was announced.

Gregory told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution one key to success when facing Georgia that he shared with Izzo is not putting the Bulldogs at the free-throw line.

“One thing we’ve been able to do is we didn’t put them at the free throw line. (Guards Charles) Mann and (Kenny) Gaines can can control games at the free throw line. And then for us, to take away their set plays was key. Get them out of their comfort zone with their sets.”
