I love horses and would have a huge ranch to corral them, if I could afford it!

Sound familiar?  I know I'm not alone and that you may have the same dream of owning a horse someday!  For now, I live vicariously through others and either watch the annual Kentucky Derby on television (Animal Kingdom won on Saturday and will race at the Preakness Stakes on May 21st) or ride a wooden version of one on a carousel.

Until five today, you can get a free ride on the Dobbin or Old Paint carousel inside the Grand Rapids Public Museum.  Today would have been the 97th birthday of museum benefactor Peter C. Cook, who died last fall.

Cook and his wife, Pat, led efforts to put a merry-go-round in both the GRPM and to build the pavilion for the carousel in the Van Andel Museum Center downtown.
