If you have forgotten someone's name, you really can't blame yourself.

Research has found that it can take anywhere from 30 seconds all the way to 2 hours to decide whether or not information is important enough to store.

The same principle can be applied to remembering a person's name. If you forget someone's name it is actually because your brain has deemed them unimportant. Whoa.

Now don't worry, you are not a jerk. Your brain can only take in so much information. So, if you are at a party and being introduced to a bunch of people you are not going to be able to remember all of those names. If you did your brain would be on a major overload and shut down.
