Food Trucks Approved in GR!

The debate has gone on for a while now - should food trucks be allowed around Grand Rapids?

It's been discussed online, in-person, by city leaders, by city residents and at city commission meetings.

Today, city commissioners voted to change the zoning rules that regulate food trucks in GR. Food trucks will be allowed to operate on private property for longer periods of time, especially during big events like ArtPrize and Festival.

Traditional restaurant owners were against the change; because food trucks don't pay the same fees and taxes as "permanent" restaurants and they create competition for those businesses.

Others support the food trucks because they offer varying fare, are available at times when traditional restaurants might be closed and they help GR achieve a big-city feel.
