Grand Rapids Police Department hosted a memorial service Tuesday morning to honor those police officers who have fallen in the line of duty.

The memorial service is part of Peace Officers Memorial Day, which falls on May 15 every year, the week surrounding the memorial is referred to National Police Week.

WZZM-13 reports the the event is normally held at Rosa Parks Circle, but was moved to the lobby of GRPD on Monroe Center due to the weather.

Grand Rapids Community College's Criminal Justice Department and Police Academy are looking to build a police memorial at the GRCC DeVos campus to honor former students who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
