Do you slap on a fake smile to get through a conversation with someone you really don't like? Stop! It's bad for you!

Here's the deal, researchers say that over time, if you put on a fake smile, it will cause you to associate smiling with feeling unhappy.

Researchers go on to say that you should hold off smiling until whatever negative emotion you're going through passes.

Three experiments were conducted where researchers asked people a range of questions which included: how happy they are with their lives, how often they smiled to feel good, and which scenarios they recall smiling from true happiness.

What they found is that people who smile when actually happy will feel better as a result, but people who fake it will feel worse. (Duh! But really, stop faking it!)
