The Environmental Protection Agency has found several pollutants in the Plainfield Township Water System.  These pollutants are below the the new federal health advisory guideline, but may still be cause for some concern.

The pollutants that are found in the water supply include but are not limited to:  perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS), perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), lead, zinc, iron, thallium, trichloroethene, vinyl chloride and benzene.

According to the EPA, all of the levels for these pollutants are considered safe, but in 2013 samples taken by the EPA came extremely close to being considered dangerous.  The amount of pollutants has since diminished after a well field was closed because of pollutants.

The pollution in the Plainfield Township Water System is suspected to be caused by a closed landfill in the area.

PFOS and PFOA have been linked to developmental problems in newborns as well as testicular and kidney cancer in adults.
