Tuesday is finally Election Day!  After Tuesday, we’ll no longer have to watch political ads, thank goodness!!  Officials around the state have reported more absentee ballots being returned all ready this year in comparison to the 2012 election.  Meaning voter turnout seems like it could be at an all time high this year.

With so many people expecting to vote, it may be helpful to have some of this info for your trip to the polls on Tuesday:

  • Polls will be open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. – it’s recommended if you want to avoid lines, vote during the workday. IF on Tuesday night, you’re still in line at 8 p.m. and haven’t voted yet, don’t worry, they’ll keep the polling place open until you have voted.
  • You don’t have to have your voter registration card. You should have your photo ID, though. Acceptable IDs are state-issue ID cards, driver’s license issued by this state or another; passport, military ID, student ID or tribal ID card.  If you don’t have an ID for some reason, you can still vote and sign an affidavit stating that you don’t have an ID and your vote will still be counted on Election Day.
  • If you want to avoid the lines on Tuesday, you can still go by the court house and vote absentee ballot. You must stop by Monday during courthouse hours and you must fill out the ballot on site. To obtain an absentee ballot, you must be 60 years or older; or sign an affidavit stating you’ll be out of town on Election Day.
  • Remember you can’t take selfies in the voting booth. You also can’t use Snapchat. It’s actually against the law to use any type of recording device meaning picture, video or audio. Just remember that, or your vote will be discarded
  • Oh and finally, don’t wear you’re “I’m with Her” shirt or “Make America Great” hat… all campaign materials including signs, stickers, etc. are banned from the polling place or with 100 feet from the doors. Yes, they can also ask you to cover or remove your campaign shirts or stickers.

There you go.  Now you have the basics needed to make your voice heard. Get out and VOTE on Tuesday!!
