While family and friends were giving thanks on Thanksgiving Day, Drake had to unfortunately deal with the sad loss of his maternal grandmother, Evelyn Sher. The Canadian rap star went on Twitter Thursday night (Nov. 22) to reveal the somber news to his fans.

“What a day to go … thankful to have had the times we did,” he tweeted on his timeline (spotted by MTV’s RapFix).

Drake’s grandmother, whom he affectionately called “Bubby,” was an inspirational figure in his life and career. On the ‘Take Care’ album, Drizzy’s grandmother is featured at the end of ‘Look What You Have Done,’ in which she expressed how thankful she is for him in a voicemail message.

“All I can say, Aubrey, is I remember the good times we had together and the times I used to look after you and I still have wonderful feelings about that,” she said over a melancholy piano-driven beat. “So God bless you, and I hope I’ll see you.”

The family matriarch was also featured in a deleted scene from the 2010 MTV documentary ‘Drake: Better Than Good.’ In the scene, Drake visits his grandmother in a nursing home shortly after inking his deal with YMCMB. He would later pay tribute to her on ‘The Resistance’ from his debut LP ‘Thank Me Later.’

We send our condolences to Drake and his family. Take care…
