Downtown GR Skating Rink Opening Postponed By A Day
If you were looking forward to coming to downtown Grand Rapids Friday night, watching the tree in front of the GRAM be lit, and then partaking in some ice skating, you’re going to have to rethink part of your plans. It was announced today that the skating rink will not be opening on Friday evening as planned.
The rink is now expected to open at 5 p.m. Saturday instead.
The delay is the result of an unseasonably warm couple of weeks and the rain that we experienced in West Michigan earlier in the week. Officials are saying that the ice simply has not set as well as it needs to in order to open the rink to the public.
Once open, the rink will then stay open through March. It’s open seven days a week, from noon until 10 p.m. It will be open New Year’s Eve from noon to 1 a.m., and be closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
Skate rental free with an ID, or bring your own skates. The cost to use the rink is $2 for adults (18 and up) and $1 for children.
The annual lighting of the holiday tree outside of the GRAM and next to the rink will still occur Friday at 5:30 pm
