We’ve still two weeks to go in the 2016 election - not enough to get comfortable, but far enough along to wonder about the losing candidate’s future. Donald Trump may have a long road to regaining any positive legacy, as vandals made that uncertainty literal by destroying the former Apprentice host’s Hollywood star.

At some point early Wednesday in Los Angeles, a man identifying himself as Jamie Otis (via Deadline) took his Trump frustration out on the Republican presidential candidate’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star, destroying the square with a hammer and pickax. Otis had initially planned to remove the entire star and auction it off (proceeds going to women accusing Trump of sexual assault), but the process irreparably destroyed Trump’s name and icon.

The vandal apparently disguised himself as a construction worker to mask his efforts, even ending up on video, though “Otis” had left the scene behind by the time LAPD units arrived. TMZ also managed to interview the man, who expressed disinterest in any felony prosecution from Trump or the LAPD, but promised to turn himself in:

The star itself was commemorated to Trump in in January 2007 for his Apprentice work, and has been vandalized multiple times (including spray-painted swastikas, and miniature walls) over the last year. Damage to Trump’s star is reportedly estimated at around $2,500 worth, with crews already in place to repair it, though no word on how long the Hollywood Historic Trust will take to fix it.

Trump himself has yet to comment on the matter, but expect a tweetstorm any minute.
