The Detroit Lions have decided against re-signing center Dominic Raiola, according to Dave Birkett from The Detroit Free Press.

Raiola will enter free agency in March, and Birkett says that the team has already told Raiola that he will not be a part of the team moving forward.

Raiola, who was picked in the second-round of the draft in 2001, has been a powerhouse on the Lions' offensive line since his second season in Detroit.

This season, Raiola missed the Lions' week 17 matchup against the Green Bay Packers because he was suspended for jumping on the leg of Chicago Bears' defensive tackle Ego Ferguson.

Raiola also faced scrutiny during the 2013 season for harassing the University of Wisconsin marching band with "unprovoked, offensive comments".

It is likely that Raiola will be replaced on the offensive line by Travis Swanson, whom the Lions drafted in the third round last year. Swanson filled in for Raiola during his week 17 suspension.
