Grand Rapids' very own Davenport University is celebrating it's 150th Anniversary this year and they made a very informative video about their history.  The university was founded in 1866 and went through several iterations before it became what we know it as today.

Davenport is also hosting it's 17th annual Excellence in Business Dinner Gala with special guest speaker Anderson Cooper.  The event is on May 6th from 6pm-10pm, so get your tickets soon!

A Brief Timeline of Davenport University

1866 - Carl Swensburg opens Grand Rapids Business College
1910 - Instructor M.E. Davenport takes over failing school
1936 - The Grand Rapids College of Applied Science, which would become the University of Grand Rapids, launches.
1943 - Davenport-McLachlan Institute shares facilities with University of Grand Rapids.
1945 - University of Grand Rapids closes and Robinson Road campus is sold to Aquinas College. DMI moves to Fountain Street.
1949 - The Davenport Institute moves into its new home on the corner of Fulton and Division.
1968 - Davenport moves to its new home at 415 Fulton Street East.
1998 - The Excellence in Business Gala is created to honor business leaders and raise funds for scholarships, with more than $2 million raised over next few decades.
