When was the last time you saw gas for below a dollar in Michigan?

There was a gas station in Houghton Lake that dropped gas to 78¢ this past January but for the entire state, the overall answer is... a long time! But that could all change pretty soon!

Mlive.com says that the average fuel price in the state is currently below $1.50/gallon. In some parts of the state it's as low as $1.20/gallon. By this weekend, or early next week, prices are expected to drop even further, and according to Patrick DeHaan, a senior petroleum analyst for Gasbuddy.com, 99¢ gas prices are a "strong possibility."

"Before (the) shift to summer gasoline begins, refiners must move winter-spec gasoline. To do it, they're dropping prices significantly as inventories of winter-spec gasoline swell..."

Unfortunately, prices will go back up once it gets closer to summertime, but Michigan is one of 9 states to have low gas price averages in 12 years.

Gasbuddy.com is reporting that the current national average for gas is $1.71 per gallon while Michigan's average is well below that at $1.45. In Grand Rapids, the average is $1.43 per gallon and falling.

Take advantage of the cheap gas while you can!
