Corrections Officer Assaulted at the Michigan Reformatory in Ionia
A spokesperson with the Michigan Department of Corrections says the officer was hit in the back of the head, knocking him unconscious.
WOOD-TV 8 reports the incident happened at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Michigan Reformatory in Ionia. MLive reports the officer was hit with a padlock.
The officer regained consciousness on scene, and was taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation. Reports say the officer didn't receive any cuts, and the injury appears to be non-life threatening.
The Michigan Reformatory houses inmates classified under Level 2 and Level 4 security, the higher the level the more risk. Level 5 is considered maximum security. According to WOOD-TV 8, the attack happened in Level 4 housing.
The inmate has been placed in isolation.
