Drivers who take Lake Michigan Drive (M-45) in Grand Rapids and Walker may want to think about taking an alternate route beginning today.

MDOT is starting a resurfacing project on Lake Michigan Drive from I-196 to Wilson Drive in Walker. MDOT also plans to replace the curbs and upgrade the sidewalks.

Lane closures during the week will be occurring between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. In Walker, the majority of the work will be done at night between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The westbound  I-196 exit ramp to Lake Michigan Drive will be closed for only one weekend during the construction, as will the entrance ramps from Lake Michigan Dr. to I-196 east and westbound.

This project is expected to be completed by the end of July.
