Connecticut beat Kentucky 60-54 on Monday night to claim the 2014 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball title in Arlington, Texas.

Shabazz Napier scored 22 points to lead Connecticut at AT&T Stadium, giving the Huskies (32-8) their fourth national title and their second championship in four years. In 2011, UConn defeated Butler for the title. The Huskies also won titles in 1999 and 2004.

Leading 35-31 at halftime, Connecticut never allowed Kentucky to tie or lead in the second half.

The Wildcats closed to within a point on three occasions, but Napier’s clutch three-pointer with 6:54 left gave UConn a four-point cushion they extended by game’s end. The guard was named the tournament’s most outstanding player for his performance.

A seventh-seed out of the South Region, the Huskies, of the American Athletic Conference, bolted out to a 17-8 run to start the game and led by as much as 15 points in the first half.

James Young scored 20 points to lead Kentucky (29-11), from the Southeastern Conference and which advanced to its second title game in three years after being the eighth seed in the Midwest Region.

Kentucky has won eight national titles, defeating Kansas in 2012. Its other NCAA titles came in 1948, 1949, 1951, 1958, 1978, 1996 and 1998.

UConn defeated Michigan State and Kentucky defeated Michigan in regional finals to make it to the NCAA Final Four.
