Community Tree-Planting Grants Available Through DNR, DTE Energy Foundation Partnership

The DTE Energy Foundation and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources are partnering to fund tree-planting projects across Michigan.

A total of $175,000 is available in matching grants of up to $4,000 each, will be awarded on a competitive basis.

Byron Center Ranks Third on List of ‘Best Cities for Young Families in Michigan’

Earlier this month, NerdWallet named the ten best cities for young families in Michigan.

The list considered: home affordability, prosperity and growth, quality of education, and family friendliness.

Byron Center ranked third. Hudsonville, Grandville and Rockford all made the top 20.

Michigan Shipwrecks as Seen From Coast Guard Helicopter [Photos]

A crew in a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter was able to get a great view of some shipwrecks while flying over northern Lake Michigan last week.

In post to its Facebook page Sunday, the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station in Traverse City said that the helicopter was flying in the area of Sleeping Bear Point between Leland and Northport when the crew spotted the shipwrecks in the clear water.

Michigan Mother Seriously Injured Defending Daughter From Domestic Violence Suspect

A Michigan mother was hospitalized Friday with a closed head injury involving possible bleeding on the brain following an attack by her daughter’s boyfriend, according to police.

Randy Regan Jr., 23, is being held in the Branch County Jail on charges of aggravated assault less than murder and domestic violence stemming from the incident in Coldwater Friday morning.
