BREAKING NEWS: MySpace Still Exists

OK, so maybe MySpace still existing isn't exactly breaking news. But, lately Justin Timberlake has talked about it a lot, and they are planning to lay off almost 500 workers (who knew they employed so many people? I figured it was still just Tom) because it seems no one uses it any more.

I couldn't tell you when the last time was that I logged into the seemingly ancient social networking site. Before Friday night, that is.

Why did the average American go online? For no particular reason (Ba-dum-bum).

Although this may not become the newest joke anytime soon, it’s actually a true statement. According to a new report from the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project, 53 percent of 18- to 29-year-old Americans go online just for fun or to waste time. 10 Things We Wish We Could Opt Out of on Facebook

Facebook may have changed the way we communicate, keep up with long lost friends and pretend that we're doing actual work in the office, but it has come at a great cost to privacy. Now the federal government is forcing the social networking giant to ask all 800 million of their users if they wish to “opt out” of certain settings and features that might expose some of their personal information to the entire world.

We applaud these efforts to ensure our privacy, and we think it should be taken even further. Facebook should not only make sure that our most sensitive information isn't exposed to the general public, but they should also ask us if we want to “opt out” of the most annoying causes of social networking headaches that have spread like some virtual flesh eating bacteria that cannot be stopped.
