New High School Allows Students to Earn College Degree and Land Job with IBM

The IBM International Foundation and the New York City Public Schools have collaborated to create the new Pathways in Technology Early College High School, which will open in September.

Dubbed “P-Tech,” students can earn a standard four-year diploma, or opt to stay for two extra years — after which they’ll graduate with an associate’s degree in computer science from CUNY’s College of Technology (City Tech) for free. They can then continue their studies at City Tech, attend other colleges and apply the credits they’ve already earned, or be considered for employment by IBM’s IT department and at other companies.

Group Pushes For Warning Labels on Hot Dogs

Instead of grouping hot dogs with baseball and apple pie, a national medical group wants you to consider them as bad for you as cigarettes.

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a Washington, D.C. group that promotes preventive medicine and a vegan diet, unveiled a billboard last Monday near the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with the advisory: "Warning: Hot dogs can wreck your health." It also encourages people to visit their website.

Stuff My Kids Ruined

I know that when I was a kid, my brothers and I were rather destructive little tornadoes of energy. I'm sure that we broke plenty of things. I seem to remember an incident involving some sort of sticky slime-like toy that my little brother had being throw onto the ceiling. And sticking there. And not wanting to come off. And leaving a nice purple stain on the ceiling.

My younger brother was also a big fan of drawing on walls and other surfaces for a while. Crayon doesn't come off all that easily.

We knocked things over, we played ball in the house, we were probably holy terrors.

And I think this is probably normal, in fact there's a whole website dedicated to the subject.

No Such Thing As Boys or Girls At Genderless Preschool

Does your little girl like to play with trucks? Is your preschool aged son more interested in helping you around the house than playing outside in the dirt? A lot of  parents these days reject traditional gender roles for their kids, buying trucks and trains for girls and encouraging boys to explore toy kitchens. In fact, remember when I told you about the family who has decided to raise a "genderless child"? But is there such a thing as too far ?  A Swedish preschool might be about to find out. The Egalia Preschool in Stockholm is rejecting gender identity altogether, and do not refer to kids as either “him” or “her”, as well as using toys, books and learning materials that are not gender specific.

Whining Is The Most Annoying Sound Ever – Scientific Proof

As someone who doesn't have kids, I don’t really need a study to tell me that whining is, without question, the most annoying sound on the planet. However, there is one: Research just published in the Journal of Social, Evolutionary, and Cultural Psychology confirms that no other sound can distract, irritate or otherwise unnerve like the universal tone people use to express their discontent (I attribute it mostly to kids, but I've met some pretty whiny adults, too).
