School season is back.  So is football season.  And soccer season.  And ballet season.

Kids have more extracurricular options today than ever before.  The exercise is great and so are the social and learning opportunities.  But is there a point where it becomes too much?

Can a child be in too many extracurricular activities?

My 6-year-old is in first grade.  She loves school and is full of energy.  She is also very busy.  Three days a week she takes part in an extra class or activity.  One day is soccer, another day is a church class, the third day is a drawing class. She loves all three and they are all good for her for different reasons, but I wouldn't think of adding another activity.  Time for homework and reading are important and so is having some regular play time. How many extracurricular activities are ideal for a child?
