A Barry County man, charged with possessing 650,000 images of sexual abuse and torture of children, has now been accused of raping an 8-year-old girl with Down Syndrome.

David Carl Heinsen, 69, who lives in Nashville, was arraigned for first-degree criminal sexual conduct, which carries a maximum term of up to life in prison.

Heinsen's collection of child porn included photos of children of various ages being sexually abused and in some cases, tortured.

In addition to the photos, Heinsen also was in possession of 3,000 videos of child pornography.

Nashville police began investigating Heinsen in July after pornography was found on a computer he used. A search of his home resulted in the discovery of numerous images of child pornography.

At that point, federal investigators got involved, and eventually charged Heinsen with receiving and possessing child pornography.

The sexual assault charge in Barry County involves a former neighbor who was abused by Heinsen over 25 years ago.

Heinsen admitted to police that he sexually abused the girl in his home and photographed the assaults.

The victim had a limited vocabulary and was unable to describe the assaults, according to police.

A tentative trial date has been set for Oct. 27 at the federal court in Kalamazoo.
